For a long time, outdoor furniture design operated on a single, unspoken assumption: outside is different from inside. Outside needs to be hard because it rains. It needs to be smooth because it is practical. It needs to look like it belongs in a garden, not a living room.

That assumption is wrong. Properly engineered, hand-woven, artisanal rope is what proved it to us.

This is not a material that arrived with a mood board. It arrived because our customers started asking the same question: why does the moment I step outside, I have to give up comfort? The answer is that they do not have to. The Lauren Collection exists because of that question.

The best furniture does not announce what it is made of. It announces how it makes you feel.

Rope earns its place. Here is how.

The stone patios and brick walls that define most British gardens are beautiful in their own right. But left alone, furnished with hard frames and flat cushions, they produce spaces that feel more like waiting rooms than destinations. Rope changes that relationship.

Its open-weave pattern softens right angles without hiding them. Its texture catches light differently in the morning and evening. It does something to the atmosphere of a patio that has been described as making the whole garden feel less sharp. That is the difference between a garden you sit in and a garden you linger in.

For the body

Woven rope naturally follows your shape in a way that rigid metal or injection-moulded plastic cannot. The give is subtle, not hammock-soft but genuinely accommodating. Long afternoons feel different in it.

For the eye  

The criss-cross pattern creates depth and shadow that flat surfaces do not. In sunlight, a rope-woven frame appears textured, warm, and considered. It looks handmade because it is.

For the indoors-outdoors question  

The same woven logic that makes a rug feel at home in a Notting Hill flat works just as well on a garden terrace. That visual continuity creates the sense that the home does not stop at the back door.

For the British weather

Our rope is marine-grade, UV-stable, moisture-repellent, and built to stay outdoors year-round. It is not weather-resistant, with caveats. It is built for it. The colour holds through high summers and wet springs alike.

Made in small batches for a reason.

The Lauren Day Bed and Lauren Bistro Sets began as a single design problem: how do you make outdoor furniture that does not look like it is trying to be indoor furniture, but feels just as comfortable?

The answer is in the pairing. Powder-coated frames give the Lauren pieces their architectural quality, clean lines, structural integrity, and a sense of belonging. Hand-woven rope gives them warmth. Neither element compensates for the other. They work together.

We produce the Lauren Collection in limited batches. This is a quality decision. Each piece is woven by hand, which takes time, and that is not something we are willing to compromise. The weave you feel is made by hand, not by machine.

On limited production

Mass production optimises for consistency of output. Hand-weaving prioritises quality. The slight variations in tension and texture are not imperfections. They are the result of skilled craftsmanship, and we believe that is worth preserving.

How to style it

The table sets the conversation.

Rope furniture does not need heavy styling. It works best with materials that share its sense of texture and restraint.

Stone and marble  
Our Lucy Coffee Table pairs marble’s cool, smooth surface with the warmth of woven rope. The contrast is intentional. Marble brings precision; rope brings craft.

Botanical tones in the cushioning  
The rope’s natural, sandy palette works well with sage, moss, and eucalyptus tones. These colours share a calm, grounded feel. Cushions in these shades complete the look rather than decorate it.

Nothing too glossy  
High-gloss surfaces and overly synthetic materials do not pair well with rope. It works best with honest materials such as terracotta, linen, unglazed ceramics, and raw timber. When the surrounding materials are considered, rope does not need to compete for attention.

We did not choose rope because it was fashionable. We chose it because it was the most honest answer to a question our customers had been asking for years.
