Planning & Regulations
Do I need planning permission for a pergola?
In most cases, our pergolas fall under Permitted Development Rights and do not require planning permission. However, if you live in a listed building, conservation area, or Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we recommend checking with your local authority.
How high can a pergola be without planning permission?
If within 2 metres of a boundary, your pergola should not exceed 2.5 metres in height. Beyond this, you can install a pergola up to 3 metres high without planning permission.
Are there restrictions on where I can install my pergola?
Pergolas should not be placed at the front of a house facing a public road and must not cover more than 50% of your garden area.

Our pergolas are crafted from high-quality aluminium, offering superior durability, weather resistance, and low maintenance compared to traditional wooden options.
Are the pergolas waterproof?
Yes, our pergolas are fully waterproof, with integrated drainage systems to channel rainwater away efficiently.
Can the pergola withstand strong winds?
Designed for the UK climate, our pergolas are wind-resistant, with optional windproof blinds for additional protection.
How long will my pergola last?
With proper care, our aluminium pergolas are built to last for many years, requiring minimal maintenance compared to wooden alternatives.
Customisation & Features
Can I customise my pergola?
Absolutely! Atkin & Thyme pergolas offer various customisation options, including side panels, blinds, and outdoor cooking solutions, allowing you to tailor your outdoor space
Are the pergolas waterproof?
Yes, our pergolas are fully waterproof, with integrated drainage systems to channel rainwater away efficiently.
Can I add side panels or blinds later?
Yes, our modular design allows you to upgrade your pergola over time with blinds, decorative panels, and accessories to suit your evolving needs. However, we do recommend purchasing everything you need on your first order so our expert installers can fit everything perfectly for you.
Do your pergolas include lighting options?
Yes, most of our pergolas feature built-in LED lighting, adding elegance and functionality for evening use. The one exception is the 3m x 1.5 m BBQ Pergola. Pergolas include LEDs consisting of a 3.2M length cable with standard 3 pin plug.
What’s the difference between a manual and automatic pergola?
While other more expensive automatic models on the market offer remote control, our manual pergolas require simple hand-operated adjustments to open blinds and louvers.
Installation & Delivery
Does Atkin & Thyme offer professional installation?
Yes, we provide expert installation services, ensuring your pergola is securely and professionally set up. This can be added at checkout, and you will be contacted directly by one of our installers to discuss ground preparation, base surfaces and arrange a suitable date for your installation.
How long does installation take?
Most installations take around 4+ hours and require 2-3 people for safe and efficient assembly.
Can the pergola be installed on different surfaces?
Yes! Our pergolas can be bolted to patios, porcelain tiles, or decking. We advise checking ground stability before installation, and we do recommend that the surface is level.
How will my pergola be delivered?
Due to the size and weight, our pergolas are delivered via a two-person service, ensuring safe and secure handling
Warranty & Payment
What warranty does Atkin & Thyme provide?
Our pergolas come with 5-year manufacturers limited warranty, and a 12-month installation warranty from date of install, giving you peace of mind for years to come.
Do you offer a trial period or returns?
We offer a 30-day return policy, provided the pergola is in its original condition and in original packaging.
Are financing options available?
Yes, Atkin & Thyme offers simple Pay Later options via Klarna or Pay Pal Credit allowing you to spread the cost of your pergola over three equal monthly payments

Your new Pergola will be delivered 21 working day prior to placing your order and on completion of our Pre-Installation Survey.

Electrics for Lighting
A 3.2m cable is supplied with each pergola. A standard 3-pin weatherproof socket is required.
